... Booms, Bangs! Fizzes ....

Last week was British Science Week and to celebrate the last day of it, we brought Science into the home with the help of John Adams Booms, Bangs! Fizzes explosive messy science set!

'Booms Bangs and Fizzes, a totally cool science set that allows you to create a whole heap of noisy, messy, bubbling, fizzing, explosive experiments in your home.
Have loads of fun whilst learning about the science of why things explode, froth and make loud noises.'

The set has 12 fun experiments to try, there's an experiment to suit everyone.
  1. Film Canister Rocket,
  2. Jet Engine Balloon Screamer,
  3. Bike Pump Rocket Ship,
  4. Erupting Underwater Volcano,
  5. Confetti Shower Explosion,
  6. Exploding Lunch Bag,
  7. Paper Banger,
  8. Water Bomb,
  9. Indoor Lightning,
  10. Rock Salt Depth Charge,
  11. Mad Fizzing Potion 1,
  12. Mad Fizzing Potion 2.

The set includes all the important bits you need for those experiments with just a handful needing a few extras that you'll be able to find around the house.

I had planned to get the boys in the garden and let them loose on some of the messy experiments but unfortunately, it snowed again and was ridiculously chilly, so we stayed inside and picked a few of the non-messy ones.

Our first one was Indoor Lightning.

For this, we just needed a pen lid and some sticky tape.
The lid is to make a handle for the aluminium tray.

You have to rub the Lightning Styrene Sheet on your hair really fast then drop it on to the carpet, then from about 30cm, you drop the tray onto it.
Then you place your finger on the tray, without touching the Styrene sheet and you should hear a crackle and feel a slight shock.

We did this a few times and found that it only really worked on Oscar's hair. So he turned into our rubber!

Once we had all felt the mini shock we tried the next step trying to see the lightning...

To do this you are meant to repeat the rubbing of the Styrene sheet and dropping it on the carpet then picking up the tray by the pen lid handly then very slowly bringing your other finger towards the sheet.
You should then see a lightning spark and hear a crack.

Unfortunately, we didnt see any lightning but we did hear the crack.
The boys were all really impressed with this, and still very desperate to make their own lightning.
So this will be an experiment we'll be trying again!

Our next experiment was Jet Engine Balloon Screamer.

Everything needed for this experiment was included in the pack, we just had to make up the rocket!
The boys all helped with the making of the rocket and setting up the chairs.
I was only going to do a short distance between the two chairs, but they decided it would be better if we did it the whole length of the kitchen.

We enlisted Daddy to lend a hand so I could get the picture of the rocket in action.
Our first attempt didn't actually manage to do anything but make a noise.
So after a little pep talk from the boys, Daddy blew the rocket balloon even bigger and then picked up one chair, so that it was at a slight angle to the other.
And whooooooooosh the Rocket was zooming across the kitchen.

The boys all giggled with delight.

Our last experiment was the Paper Banger.

Again this was included in the set and all you have to do is some fancy folding and then BANG!
I discovered I have pretty weak arm strength, so I couldn't actually get the thing to bang, so Daddy was called back into the kitchen and he showed the boys what it really could do. Their faces were priceless.
It made a pretty awesome Bang!
Jon did it a few times but in the end got a bit carried away and did it too hard, it actually ripped the paper.

We all really enjoyed our mini science morning in the kitchen and can't wait for the weather to warm up so we can get in the garden to do some messy experiments.

Boom, Bangs! Fizzes is recommended for ages 7 upwards.
RRP £19.95

... 3D Mini Scenes with eZee Beads ...

My 3rd instalment for the John Adams Craft Club and this time its for 3D Mini Scenes with eZee Beads.

The eZee Beads 3D Mini Scenes set lets you create charming 3D scenes using just beads and water!

Whats inside the box;
Over 1200 beads,
Bead storage,
Bead tray,
Plastic pegs,
Water sprayer,
4 Design cards.
Designs include owl, duck & ducklings, frog on a lily pad, snail & cute rabbit.

Makes 5 free standing mini scenes
Recommended age 5+

I decided to sit down with Ru after nursery whilst all the other boys were still at school and design our first ever 3d mini scene.
I let Ru pick which design we would do and he chose the cute little bunny.
The thought of making a pink bunny made him very happy and he sat there clapping whilst I sorted out all the beads into the bead storage pot.

Once the beads were all in a separate section we started on our design, Ru would get the right coloured bead and hand it to me.

Occasionally he did place the bead but he seemed to enjoy picking out the beads and watching me do the hard part.
We started with the green base and worked up, making sure all the beads were down before we sprayed them with water.

Once Ru had made sure every bead was covered in water we made our flower stalk using the bead pegs provided.

After spraying the beads with water it is recommended you leave them to dry for at least 30 minutes.
We left ours for around an hour and by that time it was really easy to peel the design away from the bead board.

Once the design was dry and peeled off the board Ru watched me turn it from a flat design into a 3D mini scene and he was more than impressed.
He was beaming from ear to ear and couldn't wait to hold his little pink bunny.

Both Ru and I were very pleased with the outcome and we can't wait to make more!

\

eZee beads 3D mini scenes would make a super Christmas present.
You can find it in Tesco
RRP £14.99.

John Adams BLOPEN Glitter Studio Review

As part of my review series for the brand new John Adams Craft Club that launched at the end of September.

I am now sharing with you how me and the boys got on with the Blopens Glitter Studio

Box Contains;

 5 BLOPENS,
Glitter Holder,
Glue Pen,
4 Glitter Tubes,
Butterfly Mobile.
Heart,
3 Flowers,
8 Stencils,
Ribbon and Instructions

I really love the amount of different stencils you get included in the box, the boys all enjoyed looking through them deciding which ones they were going to do and who they were going to be for.

Once you've got everything out the box you can then turn the box around and use it as an easel, with slots for all the pens and glitter tubes.
Which is great for helping you store your pens whilst you work on your master piece.

For our first attempt at BLOPENS we decided we would just use the templates on normal paper just so we could get the hang of it.
Everyone decided they would do one for their favourite teachers at school which was rather sweet.

They made sure to add lots of glitter to make them look extra special.

The BLOPENS were really easy to use and the all 3 of the boys found it nice and simple to use them.
Even little Ru mastered them and made some really awesome art work!
The recommended age is 6 upwards but with adult supervision the boys all got on really well.
If using BLOPENS with under 6 always make sure an adult is present!

After the wedding the boys are all planning to do one of the mobiles designs and hang it in their room.

The boys joint effort for Daddy
For their head teacher
For another teacher.

Recommended for ages 6 +
Available from Smyths Toys
 RRP £24.99

Over on the John Adams Craft Club Facebook page there are lots of craft tips/ideas, competitions, reviews and a whole lot of other fun things.
Why not head over and check it out!

Fuzzy-Felt My House

To celebrate Fuzzy Felt being selected as one of Royal Mails most iconic and loved British toys for its recent stamp collection I have been sent a classic set to review and bring back some happy childhood memories.

We recently reviewed the Paw Patrol set and Ru loved it, which pleased me as Fuzzy Felt was a childhood favourite of mine.
I was more than happy to review an original set, even if Ru wasn't up to playing I knew I would be!

As soon as the set arrived it bought back many happy memories of me and my brother sitting at the
dining table playing with our felt pieces and creating all sorts of different pictures.

Even my mother remembers playing with Fuzzy-Felts when she was a child, and when I told her we'd been sent an original set she got rather excited at the thought of having a play when she was next up visiting!

Ru was just as happy to sit at the table and get creative.
He loved setting up the house with the windows and doors, I couldn't help but get involved and set up the clouds and the little white fence.

It's always nice to see Ru using his imagination and playing nicely, I highly recommend Fuzzy-Felts to anyone who want five minutes peace!

There are 6 original sets to choose from,
My House,
Under The Sea,
On The Farm,
Go Shopping,
Dinosaurs and Little Princess.

Fuzzy Felt encourages co-ordination, recognition, counting, sorting and story telling.

The My House set contains,
Over 100 fuzzy-felt pieces,
A felt playboard,
ideas leaflet.
Suitable for ages 3 and up.

One of Rupert's masterpieces!
If you've been living in space for the last 60 years and you want to know more about Fuzzy-Felts head over to the John Adams website to find out more.

Rainy Day Fun With John Adams Games .....

The boys love spending time with both Jon and myself playing fun games, so when John Adams asked if we wanted to review some games for them I was more than happy to say yes!

Last week was a bit of a wash out, which meant it was the perfect time to stay inside and keep ourselves busy with some fab new games!

We were sent;
Mr Bucket,
Giggle Wiggle and Don't be a Donkey.
All 3 games are for 2 - 4 players.
Recommended age range of 4+.

Up first was Giggle Wiggle.

Aim of the game...

Be the first to place all your coloured balls onto Giggle Wiggle’s moving hands to become the champion of the game

The boys loved this game.
They thought it was hilarious trying to get their balls onto Giggle Wiggles hands as he danced around to Salsa music.

I've also been using it to help Ru sort his colours.
The game comes with four sets of different coloured balls and he really enjoys placing them in their different compartments.

The game requires 3 AA batteries that aren't included.
RRP £24.99

Up next was Don't Be a Donkey.

Aim of the game...

Players get to choose a card from their hand to pass onto the next player, then keep on swapping cards until someone gets a full house of matching donkey cards and shouts out ‘DONKEY’.
Then it’s a race to grab one of the carrots on the table, but watch out as there are not enough carrots to go around, if you are too slow you must lift-up one of your donkey ears.
Miss out three times and you get to wear the donkey nose completing your transformation into a donkey and losing the game.

This game took a little explaining for the twins to understand, but once they had watched Noah and myself have a few rounds they soon cottoned on.
This is a great game and something for all the family to enjoy.
The twins enjoyed being the donkey far more than they should have and I'm sure they lost on purpose.
It has been a great game for Jon, myself and Noah to play on our Friday games nights.

The game comes with everything you need.
4 Headbands,
4 sets of ears,
3 carrots,
a set of Donkey playing cards and one Donkey snout.
RRP £24.99

Last but not least Mr Bucket.....

Aim of the game....

As Mr. Bucket moves and waves his arms, he likes to pop balls out his mouth.
Grab a shovel and chase Mr. Bucket, scooping up and returning all three of your coloured balls.
Be quick as he pops out balls almost as fast as you can drop them in!
When all the balls have been dropped in, lift Mr. Bucket by the handle to win the game!

Rupert has never really been a big fan of games, as he can't quite sit still enough so this game is perfect for him.
He could run around putting the balls into Mr Bucket all day quite happily.
The twins got a bit fed up with it, as they couldn't quite manage to get all their balls in before he spat them back out again.
So, so far Mr Bucket is the remaining champion on Mr Bucket.
Again this is another game that Ru likes to sort out the colours with.

Mr Bucket comes unassembled in the box but literally takes 5 minutes for you to click him all together.
The first time you get him out you have to stick on his eyes.
He requires 3 AA batteries which aren't included.

It's the perfect game for preschoolers like Ru.
RRP £24.99.

**  We were sent the PR Samples in return for a blog post, all thoughts are my own!

Hiding From The Sun With Fuzzy-Felt.

Last week was sooo hot that we often found ourselves hiding away indoors.
During one of our hide out sessions we decided to open up the Paw Patrol Fuzzy-Felt pack that we were sent from John Adams

Inside the box you get,
Over 70 assorted felt shapes,
Ideas Leaflet
Felt play board.

Ru loves Paw Patrol and he needed no instructions on what to do with the felt pieces, he instantly started making pictures with the different pieces.

He really enjoyed making different pictures and showing me the end results.

The felt shapes stick nicely to the play board and they're is a nice selection of different pieces to choose from.

Ru spent a good half an hour making up different scenes and chatting away to himself whilst he did so.
Making up little scenes and playing with the Paw Patrol team.

It was the perfect activity to keep Ru entertained whilst we kept him in from the sun for a bit.
The twins have also had a play with it and both enjoyed it as much as Ru did.

We've never had a Fuzzy-Felt toy before, but I certainly will be buying more when looking for Christmas or birthday presents.

Paw Patrol Fuzzy-Felt is suitable for children aged 3-6yrs.
Fuzzy-Felt is one of Britains best loved toys!
You can buy this Paw Patrol Fuzzy-Felt from amazon for £12.99.

Make Your Own Chocolate Lollies This Easter.

Everyone enjoys Easter eggs at Easter but why not change things up a little and make your own lollies to give out to friends and family?!

We were recently sent the Chocolate Lolly Maker from John Adams to have a go with and see how good our lolly making skills were.

Inside the box you have everything you need minus the chocolate to make the lollies,
Lolly Wrapper Unit
4x Lolly moulds - hearts, flower, bunny and pony
2x lolly mould holders
8x message moulds
Chocolate melting unit
Spoon and stirrer
Re-usable sticks
Gift bags for wrapping
Ribbons.

We used milk chocolate chips to make our lollies.
We filled the chocolate melting station with hot water from the tap and the boys each took a turn in stirring the chocolate until it melted.

The boys each picked a mould and a secret message and then poured on the chocolate using the spoon provided.
We then placed them in the fridge, but if you place them in the freezer you'll get better results.

After half an hour the lollies were done and ready to wrap up.

The boys were telling me how they wanted to make some for their teachers, but they had to make sure they were 100% tasty before handing them out.

They turned out really well and we were all really impressed with them.
The boys wrapped up their lollies and made me tie the ribbon around them before heading out into the garden to have a taste test.

All the boys gave their lollies a thumbs up and now Alex and Oscar are keen for me go and buy some more chocolate chips so they can make some more ready to hand out to family over Easter.

So if your after gifting something different this year, definitely try out the John Adams Chocolate Lolly maker.

You can buy one from The Entertainer for £20
