HATCHIMALS SURPRISE ... What's inside?!?

Last year the boys begged me for to get them Hatchimals for Christmas, but try as I might they were sold out everywhere!
So when I was asked if I would be part of the awesome blogger crew who got to review the brand new Hatchimals Surprise I was more than eager to say yes.

This year they've changed things up a bit by adding an amazing surprise in to the mix.
Last night their was a mass un-hatching on twitter by all the bloggers and it was pretty fun to be a part of.
If you missed that and haven't guessed whats inside .... it was TWINS!

we had the purple and blue egg..

When the twins first saw the egg they bickered between themselves at who would get the animal inside.
Oscar - 'I'll have it and you can have something else.'
Alex - 'No I think I'll have it and mummy can buy you another one!'

I smiled onwards at them and told them to start the hatching process.

The hatching process was pretty exciting actually, because I knew what was coming I was a bit more keen than the boys. It took about 15 minutes of constant play before the egg decided to hatch.

We all took turns in rubbing its bottom and tilting it when it felt sick.
I had the handy quick start guide to hand to tell the twins what it was feeling and what they had to do.

Every time the Hatchimals knocked the boys faces lit up and the instantly started knocking back.

It was really sweet to see how excited they were.

As the hatching time came nearer the top of the egg became softer, so I encouraged the boys to keep rubbing its bottom as that would help it hatch.

As the egg started to hatch the boys couldn't wait, so they started to give it a helping hand.... probably so they could grab it first before the other one did.

Their faces when they realised there was TWO inside was priceless! (A little video at the end so you can see their joy!)

As soon as they were both out the egg and placed together they started singing 'Hatchy Birthday' to each other.

We hatched boy / girl twins who have been lovingly named;
Alex and Lexy.
Not very original I know, but I'm sure they'll be renamed at some point.

It's really hard to find one toy thats suitable for twins, normally when buying for the twins I have to buy two of one thing, just so they don't fight and of course I end up spending a small fortune.

So the Hatchimals Surprise is perfect for twins, even normal siblings.
This will make the a perfect joint Christmas Present.

Key Features;

There are three stages that your will go through - baby, toddler and kid.
They'll sing 'Hatchy Birthday' as they enter each stage so you'll know which games to play and how to care for them.

  • These Hatchimals share a special bond – telling each other jokes, playing games, saying “I love you” and more!
  • As they enter each stage, they play different games and say different things.
  • They even feel sad when they’re apart for too long!
  • Watch as one moves and dances, while the other repeats everything you say!
  • Hatchimals Surprise are made for kids aged 5+.
  • 2 AA batteries and 3 LR44 button cells batteries required (included).

You can hatch PeaCats or Giraven.
The peaCats come in the purple/blue egg and the Giravens come in the pink/yellow egg.

Just a little video of the twins hatching their egg!

Available now from Smyths Toys for £74.99

**We were gifted the Hatchimals Surprise for the purpose of this post.

Rise Of Scar Playset

Disney Junior's The Lion Guard, Kion, the brave leader of the Guard, and his team are put to the test when they face the evil villain Scar!
Join Kion as he challenges Scar in the action-packed Rise of Scar Playset.

Key Features;

  • Playset features fun lights and sounds
  • Includes one exclusive Kion figure
  • Play flames light up and pop out and the head rises!
  • So many fun features including a snake attack, a collapsing bridge, a lava ball launcher, a battering ram, and more!
  • Batteries included

The boys all really enjoy watching The Lion Guard on Disney Junior so when this Rise Of Scar Playset from flairplc arrived they all went rather crazy.

The Lion Guard Follows on from the incredible story of Simba in the Lion King, this new hit series recounts the efforts of Kion, the son and youngest child of Simba and Nala.
Follow him as he tries to assemble a team of animals to protect the Pride lands.

I originally agreed to review it for Ru but the twins and even Noah enjoy playing with it and I often find them playing with this rather than on the tablet or DS.

Ru can easily be kept entertained playing with this with his Cars and Kion for anything from 10 minutes to half an hour. Which for him is a long time.

With Kion's movable legs its easy to switch him from a sitting pose to jumping pose in a flash and move his head around like he's really taking in the all the dangers around him.
Ru often stretched out his front and back legs like he was jumping around just like our new kitten Link.

Getting Kion to cross the bridge and then making it collapse always made them roar with laughter.
Ru's favourite feature was the Lava Ball.
He really enjoyed trying to get it fly all over the kitchen.

Scars head pops up slowly when you press his nose and as his rises his eyes light up and the flames pop out. After his is risen you can press his nose to make different noises, such as lion roars or monkeys chattering.

Ru really loved making Kion get up to all sorts of adventures... getting stuck in the vine jail and falling into the crocodile pit.
To think of it I don't think poor Kion had a good ending in any of Ru's adventures.

The boys did play nicely together but I think this toy would be even better if it came with an extra play figure.
We also had a slight problem with our batteries, but once I had switched them around the playlet worked fine.

This playset is perfect to act out scenes from the cartoon or let your imagination run wild and play like Ru does.

This would make a brilliant Christmas present (I know I mentioned the C word and it's only September...sorry) or even a birthday present for any Lion Guard fan.

Another big thumbs up from the 3 little Mini Beasts!

Available from Smyths Toys for £49.99

National Geographic Kids and LEGO® City inspire children to explore and learn more about our Jungles

National Geographic Kids and LEGO® City have collaborated on a special partnership to inspire children to explore, discover and learn about jungles and the importance of their preservation.
Known for his Science outreach work and exploration of the "Boiling River” in the Amazon, National Geographic Explorer, Andres Ruzo, is spearheading the project, and is passionate about sharing the importance of these habitats with future ‘young explorers’.

Through LEGO City Jungle bricks, vehicles, and mini-figures Ruzo has created a fun way to highlight what incredible habitats jungles are, helping children learn more about their diversity, incredible plant and animal species, as well the importance of conservation for the future.

Ruzo shares “Of all my expeditions to the Amazon Rainforest this was definitely the one my 9-year-old-self would have not wanted to miss!
The mission: To explore the sacred and mysterious Boiling River of the Amazon, deep in the heart of the jungle.
The Goal: To inspire kids to care about the jungle and the planet. The Tools: High-tech gear like drones, GPS´s, and thermal cameras - and the new LEGO® City Jungle sets of course! I want kids to love the jungle, and to want to protect and understand it as much as I do.
Long before I was ever exploring the jungle, I was dreaming up my own jungle adventures as a boy. This is why I am so excited for the LEGO City Jungle range, I want playtime to inspire the next generation of jungle explorers.”

LEGO City designer Andrew Butler Coghill, who has been part of developing the new Jungle models, comments; “Children are our role models and we believe that inviting children on a LEGO jungle adventure is a great way to inspire them to learn more about the real jungles.
It has been very motivating to meet the reactions from the children when testing the products and I am really pleased that National Geographic Kids have partnered with us to use our models to teach children about life in the jungle”.

As part of the initiative, LEGO® City & National Geographic Kids will launch an exciting new competition to win a National Geographic Family Expedition to the jungles of Costa Rica in Central America!
The winning family will explore the treetops and volcanic canyon landscapes of Rio Blanco, go zip lining through tropical forests surrounded by astonishing wildlife, visit a wildcat rescue centre to meet orphaned ocelots and jaguars, dine in a tree house and get to experience the real-life jungle.

The competition is open to children between the ages of 6 and 16, and open to residents of US, UK, Benelux, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland, Hungary, Czech, Romania & Russia.
For a chance to win, candidates must imagine something they might discover deep in the jungle – and then draw it or build it with LEGO bricks. For further details, and to enter, please visit: www.LEGO.com/jungle.

A special jungle-themed issue of National Geographic Kids will be available from 16th August and will include exciting LEGO® content, including a pull-out jungle poster which children can use as a backdrop to their imaginative play.

Within this Issue, you will find a LEGO City and National Geographic Kids ‘Explorer’s Handbook’ – a mini guide to everything you need to know about the jungle. From what to pack, to how to wrestle a caiman in an emergency, the Explorer’s Handbook is filled with fun facts and activities for children to delve into.

You can also explore the Jungle with LEGO City and National Geographic Kids online. Children can join the jungle expedition on LEGO.com/jungle and find funny facts, activities and videos and from 24th July, National Geographic Kids’ dedicated Jungle hub (www.natgeokids.com/jungle) will be available to children and parents globally.

The jungle hub will be bursting with jungle facts and fun activities for kids. You can also check out the jungle videos following AndrĂ©s Ruzo and his LEGO companions through the Amazon on an educational and immersive journey of adventure and discovery.
These can be viewed at www.LEGO.com/jungle from 1st July.

We have been very kindly sent a new Lego City Jungle Halftrack Mission set to build, so keep an eye on the blog to see what we thought.....
